Frequently Asked Questions about our Pet Meds

Everything you need to know before placing your order.

Why are your prices so much lower than my vet?

It's one of the most common questions we get at Pills for Paws - and the answer is simple. As a dedicated online platform, our operating model allows us to keep costs low through reduced overheads, bulk purchasing power, and a streamlined service - and we pass those savings so we can provide discount pet meds directly on to you

Every product we supply is genuine, TGA and APVMA approved, and dispensed by AHPRA registered Pharmacists under strict regulatory standards — the same products available through your vet clinic. Think of us as your vet chemist working alongside your vet: they diagnose and prescribe, and we make ongoing treatment more affordable and accessible. If you have any questions, our team is always happy to help.

Do I need to post my original paper prescription?

Yes -under Australian law, our animal pharmacy online requires the original pen-signed, hard copy prescription from your vet before we can dispatch any prescription medication.

If we already hold a valid prescription on file for your pet, you can simply re-order through our website without posting anything. For repeat orders where we hold your original script with valid repeats, just search for your medication, add it to cart, and check out. Your vet can also send the prescription to us directly — you'll see all available submission options at checkout. Visit our "How to Order" section for more detail.

What if my vet won't write a prescription?

While the vast majority of Australian vets are happy to write prescriptions so owners can access discount pet meds through a pharmacy, they are not legally obligated to do so. If your vet declines, you're welcome to seek a second opinion — your pet will need a full consultation before a new prescription can be issued.

If you'd like help finding a vet in your area who is happy to write prescriptions, contact us at info@pillsforpaws.com.au or call 1300 676 146 and we'll do our best to assist.

Are the medications you sell the same as what I get from my vet?

Absolutely. We source our products from the same Australian-approved suppliers that stock vet clinics directly — so you can be confident in both the quality and origin of your pet medication. We also offer generic alternatives for certain medications, which can deliver even greater savings while meeting the same strict standards. Our canine pharmacy team is particularly experienced in advising on dog-specific medications and whether a generic option is suitable — just get in touch and they'll be happy to help.

All prescription medications supplied through our partner pharmacy are registered for use in Australia and approved by the TGA and APVMA. We also offer compounded medications, custom-made for pets with specific needs.

Can I return prescription medications?

Under Australian law, prescription medicines — including compounded medications and any products taken orally — are strictly non-returnable once they leave our pharmacy. This applies regardless of whether a product is unopened, and even in the event of your pet's passing, a change in treatment, or unused quantities. All prescription medication sales are final.

Before placing your order, please confirm the correct medication, dosage, and quantity needed. Orders cannot be cancelled or refunded after being supplied by our pharmacist and dispatched.

What should I do if I ordered the wrong medication or quantity?

Please double-check your order carefully before confirming. As an online veterinary pharmacy, we are unable to make changes, process cancellations, or issue refunds once an order has been dispatched. If you're unsure about a product or dose, please contact us before completing your purchase.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Changes and cancellations can only be made before your order is processed or dispatched. Contact us as soon as possible on 1300 676 146 or at info@pillsforpaws.com.au. If your order has already been dispatched, our standard returns policy applies. Please note:

  • A $5.99 transaction fee may apply for change-of-mind cancellations reversed at your request
  • A $5.99 processing fee applies if a prescription order was placed without a script

If my script has repeats, will you hold it for my next order?

Yes! For the majority of pets using our pet pharmacy, we hold repeat prescriptions on file so you don't need to re-post your original script before every repeat order. This saves you time, reduces postage costs, and speeds up the process of getting your pet's medication when they need it most.

Can I get my repeat prescription returned to me?

Absolutely. Your repeat prescription is your property, and our pharmacist has a professional obligation to return it upon request. Return postage costs may apply.

Why don't you display pictures of medication?

Australian law prohibits the advertisement of prescription medicines directly to consumers, which is why our pet meds listings don't include packaging images or detailed product descriptions. Rest assured, everything dispensed through Pills for Paws is registered with the Australian Government (TGA or APVMA) and handled by our AHPRA registered partner pharmacy. For product-specific enquiries, email info@pillsforpaws.com.au or call 1300 676 146 — we're here to help.

Who dispenses my pet's prescription medication from your online vet pharmacy?

We make buying online pet prescription medication easy and affordable by connecting you with an Australian-registered pharmacy and pharmacist via our online vet pharmacy website. All prescription medication ordered through Pills for Paws will be reviewed, confirmed and dispensed by our partner AHPRA-registered pharmacist. You can rest assured that all medications supplied via our online vet pharmacy platform are dispensed in accordance with national and state legislation and are sourced from the same suppliers as your vet's.

Can I buy dog medications online such as gabapentin for dogs?

You sure can - but as this is prescription medication, you will need to provide a valid script from your vet . Ask your vet for a script and then simply email us and post the script to us by mail or your vet can email us the script . Search for Gabapentin on our online store and then order it online . Our Partner Pharmacist will review and dispatch the medication to you.

What makes Pills for Paws different from a regular pets chemist?

Unlike a traditional bricks-and-mortar pets chemist, Pills for Paws operates entirely online, meaning you can browse, order, and reorder your pet's medications at any time — no waiting rooms at the vet and huge savings on pet meds. We stock a wide range of prescription medications identical to those provided by your vet, all dispensed by our Partner AHPRA-registered Australian pharmacists.
